Are we there yet?

I'm sure everyone remembers the movie, Are we there yet? (2005).  Great movie!  Great story line! Great leading actors!  Ice Cube and Nia Long.

Well now there's a sitcom on TBS called, Are we there yet?  I would imagine that this show is based on the movie.  I've suffered through 3 1/2 episodes of this show and I must say that it sucks.

First of all, who did the casting?  Terry Crews and Essence Atkins make a horrible couple.  There's nothing believable about this relationship.  It's refreshing to see new kids getting their start on a sitcom, but those kids are extremely corny.  They bore me to death.  The wife's best friend/side kick is more interesting than anyone in the house and even she's not that interesting.

I really think Ice Cube dropped the ball on this one.  The show will get a 10 episode test run.  I'm not wishing bad on the show but I don't see this show passing the test.

I think they should go back to the drawing board and start all over.  The concept of the movie was good, and I could see it as a sitcom, just not this sitcom.  They should find an entirely new cast, get a new script and try again. (The one person they should keep is Telma Hopkins.  I loved her in Family Matters and Half & Half!  She's funny and could help bring the show to life.)

2 thumbs down for Are we there yet? the sitcom.

New Blog Title

I haven't posted a blog in a few weeks because I was thinking of a good blog topic.  Although I quite like being random, I didn't want to be so random with my blog.  So now my new title is "Lanikka Writer & The Idiot Box."  I've often heard the television being referred to as "The Idiot Box," yet I've learned so much from television.  It all depends on what you watch.  If you're watching idiotic things, then no, you probably won't learn much.

Me personally, I love television.  Some of the shows I watch are not informative at all, they're strictly for entertainment and others fill my head with much knowledge.  So from now on, all my blog posts will be related to the infamous "Idiot Box."

Living Single

Over a decade ago, one of the Friday 8pm shows that we waited all week to see was, "Living Single."  This show chronicled the lives of 4 single independent black women.

There aren't very many people that can hear the theme song and keep from singing along:

"We are living (ohhh) single.  Ooh in a 90s kinda world, I'm glad I got my girls.  Keep ya head up (what) keep ya head up (that's right).  Whenever this life get tough you gotta fight wit my home girls standing to my left and my right true blue its tight like glue.  We are living single."

As I watched "Living Single" this morning and laughed my butt off, I was reminded of just how funny it was and still is.  There aren't very many good shows out there now-a-days.  Max, Khadijah, Regine and Synclaire dealt with a lot of the same things we deal with in this day and age.  The players always change, but the game remains the same!

I'm proud to say that I'm a happily single woman!! :)

YOU WILL SUCCEED!

I have come to notice that everyone does not have my best interest at heart. Unfortunately even those who are friends and family do not want you to succeed. There are some that pretend they care and their attitude is what's called "nice nasty." Their actions (especially in front of others) make people think they really care, but in actuality they don't. I just want to say that the devil is a:

When you feel discouraged refer to these scriptures:

(Philippians 4:13)
"I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength."
&
(Romans 8:28)
"All things work together for good to them that love God."

If you love the Lord and follow his word you will always succeed!!
Don't let anyone put you down.

7 Random Things About Me

I’ve decided to restart my blog, as my life has picked up and there are so many great and positive things taking place.  I thought it’d be fun and interesting to make my 1st blog in 2 years, all about me!  So here are 7 (because that’s my favorite number) random things about me, right off the top of my head.

1. My first novel is officially published!
2. I attend Bloomfield College.
3. I’m obsessed with notebooks, pens, computers and the Spanish culture.
4. I’m not celebrating Christmas this year.
5. “It’s the God in me” <-(that’s not technically anything about me, but that just popped into my head.)
6. I get really irritated when people spell and pronounce things wrong.
7. I have nicknames for just about everyone.  (Even if they don’t know it!)
*Here's a bonus one -> I'm pretty much always really really random!

Eastern Stars Ball???????

The annual Eastern Stars ball is coming up. I've never been formally invited until this year and now everyone wants to know if I'm going. I would like to, kinda, sorta...I think. I'm not really the dancing partying type, but it's a family thing and my aunt says we'll have a lot of fun. I really don't know what to do. I'm trying to talk my girlfriend into going with me, but if she says no, that will be my way out. Knowing me, I'll be the boring one that goes there and doesn't even dance!!
